Men's Activism Program
Thank you for taking the time to read about the new men's program at SAPAC!

The Men's Activism program (MA) is acting as a subset of the already existing two programs at SAPAC: the Peer Education (PE) Program and the Networking, Publicity and Activism (NPA) Program . The MA Program will take its male volunteers from these two groups and work on men's issues involving sexual assault prevention and awareness in addition to their work done in the NPA or the PE program.

It's important to spread the word that men can prevent sexual assault. The MA program is aiming their efforts at male students and focusing on educating men on campus about how they can stop rape, what they can do when a survivor friend comes to them for support, and how to challenge sexism in everyday life. To do this, the men's program will be involved in the following activities:

The Toiletbowl Campaign
Putting up quarter sheets in men's bathrooms on campus with facts about men's role in the prevention of sexual assault, and challenging sexism.

Men Only Discussions
The PE program has developed men's discussion workshops on their role in prevention and sexual assault and educating men from a man's point of view. The volunteers of the MA program will be giving these programs to various groups on campus along with other PE volunteers.

White Ribbon Campaign
Men Against Violence Against Women (MAVAW) does a tremendous job with this campaign every year. The volunteers at the MA Program will be aiding MAVAW in this campaign (i.e., tabling, publicizing, advocating.)

Discussions of men's issues
The volunteers will take part and publicize for certain discussions on campus for anyone to come to. It's important for men to talk about these issues with each other to know that there may be some common ground. Some issues these discussions will focus on are sexism, male athletic stereotypes, and male stereotypes in general and how they all affect sexual assault.

Cosponsoring Events
There are many individuals out there that have made it their career to talk to students about men's role in sexual assault and how society has conditioned them to possibly think differently. The MA Program will be working to get these speakers to come to campus and cosponsor the event with other groups.

We have our work cut out for us. We're looking for volunteers always. So if you are interested in getting involved or possibly you know a friend who might want to get involved, all someone has to do is fill out an application and send it in over the internet (or you can print it out and do it by hand and give it to us in person.) Once we receive your application, we'll notify you with your training dates and other information!
