| Mission: | The African Development and Human Security Project, is an interdisciplinary group of students and faculty at the University of Michigan concerned with the confluence of environment, health, and human security in Africa. The Project began in 2006, supported by an initial grant from the Center for International Comparative Studies, and has actively fostered exploration, scholarship, and debate into the vital issue of human security in Africa. Throughout the past two years, the project has established a speaker series, reading group, a film series and forums to present student work. In addition to these ongoing activities, a core group of graduate students and faculty are actively planning an international conference on urbanization, global climate change and human security in sub-Saharan Africa. |
| Programs: | The African Development and Human Security Project goal is to provide the University of Michigan community with accurate, up-to-date information and issues concerning the African continent. We want to re-establish perceptions of Africa and invite members of our community to open themselves up to learning about a very important continent--both historically and currently. Programs sponsored by ADHS will be social, political, environmental and will carry a humanitarian theme throughout. |
