Triathlon Club Constitution

Preamble

Our mission at the University of Michigan Triathlon Team is to promote the sport of triathlon lifestyle through training, racing, and social events. We serve to create an open atmosphere for all members to enjoy the benefits of this lifestyle. We are here to help the goals of those who wish to compete at a high level in the future through the window of the USA Collegiate Triathlon development program and conference/national races.

Article I. Name

Michigan Triathlon Team is the official name of the organization.

Article II. Purpose

Our purpose is to train and promote the triathlon lifestyle

Article III. Membership

Section 1.

Any student or faculty member at the University of Michigan is eligible for membership.

Section 2.

Membership is awarded to those who pay their dues at the beginning of each semester.

Section 3.

If a member chooses to withdraw their membership, then they reserve the right to. However, they will not be refunded their dues payment for that semester or any other in which they participated.

Article IV. Officers

Section 1.

The four main positions are these listed below. Other secondary officer positions are chosen by the four main officers after they are elected (usually before nationals in April). These secondary positions include: Fundraising chair, Race organizer, Website coordinator, and Media officer. More positions may be added if there is a need for more positions. President -Attends regular meetings with Club Sports -Primary contact with MECTC and USAT -Organizes the club as a whole and oversees each officer -Obtains MECTC numbers and gets people registered for Nationals -Fills out paperwork for MSA and USAT funding -Resolves member questions and conflicts Vice-President -Helps out President -In charge of club roster -Uses roster to create invitation lists for each event -Reserves vans and licenses as needed -Reserves rooms for meetings as needed Treasurer -Manages club account -Organizes payments -Collects dues -Keeps track of people who owe money to club -Works directly with clothes and jersey chair Secretary -Relays important information to the club -Organizes rides to smaller events -In charge of the listservs -Sets up events

Section 2.

Officers will hold monthly meetings to give updates on projects and positions of the club.

Article V. Operations

Section 1.

Any student on the club may run for a position.

Section 2.

There is a general election meeting held towards the end of the school year before the nationals race in April.

Section 3.

Officers assume their positions after the nationals race in April.

Article VI. Finances

Section 1.

We finance our activities through paid dues of club members, and fundraising races (5K and Sprint Race). Beyond these activities, we hold restaurant fundraisers. Any money that the club cannot fund for racing during the year is usually paid out of the students' pockets

Section 2.

The Treasurer has the main responsibility with the bank account, however, every officer has a say on how money is spent and what activities should be done to raise finances

Article VII. Amendments

Section 1.

Amendments are proposed to the officers at a meeting.

Section 2.

Any member may propose an amendment. After proposal, the officers will discuss the next steps on voting.

Section 3.

Officers discuss the proper procedure on voting on an amendment to the Constitution.

Article VIII. Registration Renewal

Section 1.

The team must be registered for the next school year during the summer before that school year begins by the President.

Article IX. Removal of Membership

Section 1.

Officers may be removed if their actions do not follow the mission of the Michigan Triathlon Team, or if they have committed an offense against the team.

Section 2.

It is under the responsibility of the other officers of the club to decide how to remove an officer

Section 3.

Members of the organization shall be removed if their actions on the team are inappropriate or do not comply with the mission of the team.

Section 4.

Officers may speak to that member and remove them.

Article X. By-Laws

Officers are elected through the processes mentioned above, and must meet every month to discuss team issues and positions on matters.
