Operation: Educate Children Constitution
Preamble
Operation: Educate Children believes that education is a HUMAN right, and commits itself to supporting
educational opportunities for children worldwide. Operation: Educate Children is a nonprofit student
organization, founded in 2006 by University of Michigan students who believe that every child has the right to
a quality education.
Article I. Name
The organization shall be addressed as Operation: Educate Children or OEC for short.
Article II. Purpose
OEC designs and runs projects to promote local and international educational development through various
fundraisers and service projects. Each year, OEC focuses its fundraising efforts on one major project that
will have a direct and immediate impact on the international community. . In addition, OEC organizes year
-round opportunities to tutor local children at Motts Children’s Hospital, Peace Neighborhood Center, and
Clague Middle School.
Article III. Membership
Section 1.

Any university of michigan student (both undergraduate and graduate) is eligible to participate in OEC.
Section 2.

Members must attend 1 mass meeting per month and then participate in one of four committees: fundraising,
marketing, educational outreach and tutoring.
Section 3.

Students can withdraw there membership at any point in the school year by informing the executive board
either in person or thru email.
Article IV. Officers
Section 1.

OEC shall consist of three officers: President, Treasurer, and Secretary.
The president shall serves as the main contact person for OEC. The president shall be responsible for
development of agenda for each meeting, as well for each semester. The president shall act as the
overseer of group operations: the president should have regular meetings with the secretary and treasurer,
as well as help to oversee other committee activities.
The secretary shall be responsible for the meeting minutes for board meetings, to be sent out within 24
hours, and meeting minutes for general meetings, to be sent out within 24 hours. He/she shall also be in
charge creation of online documents (sign ups, schedule, polling) and also maintaining an OEC documents
binder.
The treasurer shall the creation of budget for semester as well as a budget for each fundraising event. The
treasurer shall be responsible for detailed documentation of all OEC financial activity including weekly
financial assessments through SOAS and the collection/deposit of receipts.
Section 2.

The executive board shall include, but not be limited to, the president, the secretary, the treasurer, two
fundraising chairs, two marketing chairs and one educational outreach chair. Other active members may be
invited by the board to join throughout the year.
Section 3.

OEC currently has no faculty advisor.
Article V. Operations
Section 1.

Any active member who has shown leadership qualities throughout the year qualifies for an officer position.
Section 2.

Officers shall present a short speech to board and the end of the school year during the final board meeting.
Following the speeches there shall be a question and answer period. Board members will then vote on each
position by secret ballot.
Section 3.

Officers shall assume their positions during the planning meeting for the following school year held at the end
of each winter semester.

Article VI. Finances
Section 1.

OEC shall finance its activities through private donations, fundraising events, and school sponsored funding
opportunities.
Section 2.

The treasurer shall be in charge of all OEC finances. All officers, board members, and committee members
shall report all financial transactions to the treasurer. This consists proper documentation including receipts.
Article VII. Amendments
Section 1.

Amendments shall be proposed during the weekly board meetings.
Section 2.

Amendments shall be proposed by board members.
Section 3.

Amendments shall be discussed upon proposal. Voting on amendments shall occur during the next board
meeting. Amendments shall pass if they receive a 2/3 majority from the board members.
Article VIII. Registration Renewal
Section 1.

OEC shall renew its membership at the beginning of each new school year in late August or early September.
Article IX. Removal of Membership
Section 1.

Officers may be removed for failure to comply to rules and regulations established by the organization.
Section 2.

Officers shall be removed by a 2/3 vote of all board members through a secret ballot.
Section 3.

Members shall only be removed by voluntary compliance.
Section 4.

Members may resign at any time by notifying the board either through email or in person.
