Archaeology Club Constitution

Preamble

The Archaeology Club was founded ito give undergraduates a place to discuss their own archaeological interest, knowledge, and research with students and faculty from the many homes of archaeology on campus.

Article I. Name

Archaeology Club

Article II. Purpose

Our purpose is to give undergraduates at the University of Michigan a place to learn about archaeology from each other and from graduate students and faculty.

Article III. Membership

Section 1.

There are no restrictions for membership, and we strive to bring together students from diverse academic backgrounds.

Section 2.

To become a member, simply attend a meeting. Members are identified through their inclusion on the Archaeology Club C-Tools site and e-mail list.

Section 3.

In order to withdraw, simply e-mail maiad@umich.edu and ask to be removed from the C-Tools site and e-mail list.

Article IV. Officers

Section 1.

There are two officers. We have a secretary who is in charge of posting our meeting notes on C-Tools, and we have a president who conducts meetings and prints agendas. There are no other officers, as we volunteer to take care of different tasks. When we grow as an organization we will form a more complex system of governance.

Section 2.

There will be no executive committee.

Section 3.

We have no advisor.

Article V. Operations

Section 1.

Any University of Michigan undergraduate interested in archaeology.

Section 2.

Officers are elected in the September and January. They are asked to self-nominate, and if there is more than one candidate we will vote among the candidates anonymously preceded by 3 minute speeches from each candidate.

Section 3.

Officers assume their positions the meeting following the election.

Section 4.

Article VI. Finances

Section 1.

In addition to fundraising activities throughout the year, we will receive food stipends from the Anthropology, Classics, and Near Eastern Studies departments.

Section 2.

The president is currently responsible for the organization's finances.

Article VII. Amendments

Section 1.

Members can come to any meeting with a proposed amendment.

Section 2.

Any University of Michigan undergraduate with an interest in archaeological research can propose amendments.

Section 3.

We will vote on the amendment on the week it is brought to the group if we have enough information. If not, we will table the amendment until the next week.

Article VIII. Registration Renewal

Section 1.

Article IX. Removal of Membership

Section 1.

Officers will be removed if they miss two consecutive meetings without notifying the group.

Section 2.

We will vote on the removal of officers if the above-mentioned circumstance occurs.

Section 3.

Members of the organization will be removed if they show disrespect to fellow members. Members will vote on their removal.

Article X. By-Laws

Meetings are held on Monday nights at 7 p.m. in 2163 Angell Hall.
