Michigan Bhangra Team Constitution

Preamble

The Michigan Bhangra Team strives to promote awareness of Punjabi culture and the importance of diversity and multiculturalism. We accomplish these goals by performing at numerous charity events for both our campus community and community at large.

Article I. Name

Michigan Bhangra Team (MBT)

Article II. Purpose

he Michigan Bhangra Team was started in the Fall of 2000 with a very distinct vision: we stive to promote awareness of the Punjabi culture and the importance of diversity and multiculturalism. We accomplish these goals by performing at numerous charity and cultural events for both our campus community and the community at large. Our team is known for our energy both on and off stage; we are driven to inspire others with our passion, dedication, and unique style. Our performance is based upon a foundation of comradery, creativity, and spirit, all elements we hope will work to transcend social boundaries to build a sense of community and awareness.

Article III. Membership

Section 1.

Anyone is eligible for membership. There are no restrictions.

Section 2.

Each year, the existing returning members of the Michigan Bhangra Team will hold tryouts where new members will be selected.

Section 3.

A person can withdraw from the organization. There are no dues and thus no dues to be refunded.

Article IV. Officers

Section 1.

There are 2-3 officers. They are the team "captains" and are responsible for coreography, team performances, team finance, and overall leadership.

Article V. Operations

Section 1.

Anyone on the team is eligible.

Section 2.

Officers are elected at the end of the school year for the following year. They are elected by vote, which will be kept private.

As soon as they are elected.

Section 4.

Article VI. Finances

Section 1.

Our organization will finance our activities by applying for funding through MSA (BPC and CSC) as well as other fund raising methods such as sponsors, family members, etc.

Section 2.

The captains are responsible for overall finance. However everyone is responsible for raising money.

Article VII. Amendments

Section 1.

Amendments are to be proposed at team meetings.

Section 2.

Anyone on the team may propose them/

The amendment will be voted on by the existing members of the team.

Article VIII. Registration Renewal

Section 1.

Article IX. Removal of Membership

Section 1.

Officers can be removed if they: step down as officer, criminal offense, failure to comply by rules, voting out by team.

Section 2.

To remove a officer, the team must have a discussion/meeting, and then a voting out will take place.

Section 3.

Members may be removed if they do not comply by the rules, criminal offense, etc.

Section 4.

Organization members are also removed by discussion/meeting, and then voting out.
